Anomalous brain structure in ADHD is evident very early in development.

Using high resolution MRI, researchers compared the brains of 52 preschoolers with ADHD and 38 controls.

The scans showed an overall reduction in gray matter volume, as well as more specific effects on structures associated with motor and impulse control.

Interestingly the reduction was correlated with the sevetity of the participants’ symptoms.
